Managing multiple medications safely at home

Managing multiple medications safely at home

Taking three or four different medicines a day is more common than people realise. The risk of a missed dose, a double dose or an interaction goes up with every extra tablet, but a few small habits make a big difference.

Start with one trusted list

Keep one written list of every medicine you take, including the dose, the time of day and what it is for. Bring it to every GP appointment and to the pharmacy whenever something changes. We can print this for you on request.

Use a weekly tray

A simple Monday to Sunday tablet organiser, filled once a week at a calm time of day, takes the daily guesswork out of it. If you would prefer, we can fill one for you in a sealed weekly pack.

Watch for the warning signs

  • New dizziness or unsteadiness after a dose change
  • Bruising or bleeding that is out of the ordinary
  • Suddenly feeling much more tired than usual
  • Anything new that started within two weeks of a new prescription

If any of these appear, do not stop the medicine on your own, but do speak to us or your GP straight away.
