Every autumn we see a steady rise in colds, sore throats and flu walking through the doors at Efficient Pharmacy. A little preparation goes a long way, and most of it costs nothing.
Why the flu jab is still your best line of defence
Flu is not just a heavy cold. For older adults, pregnant women, young children and anyone with a long term condition, it can mean a hospital admission. The annual vaccine is reformulated every year to match the strains expected in the UK, so last year's protection is not enough.
If you are eligible on the NHS, we can usually book you in the same week. If you are not eligible, our private flu service is quick, comfortable and good value.
Build a sensible winter cabinet
- Paracetamol and ibuprofen for fever and aches
- A simple decongestant, ideally one you have used before
- A thermometer that is easy to read
- Lozenges for sore throats and a mild cough linctus
- Oral rehydration sachets in case of a stomach bug
When to come and see us
If symptoms last longer than ten days, if you are short of breath, or if your child is under three months old with a temperature, please come in or call. Pharmacy First means we can often help on the same day without an appointment.
A five minute conversation with your pharmacist can save you a week of feeling rough and a wasted trip to your GP.
